Abstract: A coin is generally made of metal or an alloy, or sometimes of human-made materials. Precious metal–based coins had the advantage of carrying their value within the coins themselves. On the other hand, they induced manipulations, such as the clipping of coins to remove some of the precious metals.

Understanding Cryptocurrency Trends

coin

A coin is a small object, usually round and flat, used primarily as a medium of exchange or legal tender. They are standardized in weight, and produced in large quantities at a mint to facilitate trade. They are most often issued by a government. Coins often have images, numerals, or text on them. The faces of coins or medals are sometimes called the obverse and the reverse, referring to the front and back sides, respectively. The obverse of a coin is commonly called the head, because it often depicts the head of a prominent person, and the reverse is known as the tail.

Bitcoin Latest

Bitcoin (BTC) experienced a rally, reaching $66,190 and gaining over 7.5% in the past 24 hours. This surge was in response to the release of the US Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, which has implications for potential interest rate cuts in 2024.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the Consumer Price Index for April came in at 0.3%, which is lower than the expected rate of 0.4%. The March CPI print was 0.4%, which saw a lower rate of increase for the last twelve months ending April for the index, coming in at 3.4%. Rising shelter and gasoline costs were the main contributors, responsible for “over seventy percent of the monthly increase in the index for all items.”

Market participants immediately began discussing the possibility of interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve. Currently, traders are betting on a June rate cut probability of just 3.1%. The market anticipates that the first possible rate cut would occur in September, with a 53% probability, according to the CMEs FedWatch tool.

Positive inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs have also played a role in boosting investor sentiment. On May 15, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded a net inflow of over $153 million, with Bitwise‘s BITB leading the way, according to Farside Investors. Grayscale’s Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), which has typically experienced outflows, surprisingly saw an inflow of $27 million. This comes after weeks of net outflows from spot Bitcoin ETFs, coinciding with the decline in Bitcoins price from its all-time highs of $73,750, reached on March 14. Further institutional appetite for Bitcoin investment products continues to grow, as evidenced by the State of Wisconsin Investment Board's disclosure of holding approximately $164 million in spot Bitcoin ETFs.

Investing in Digital Currency

Are you considering investing in cryptocurrency? Although Bitcoin is likely the best-known virtual money, thousands of cryptocurrencies already exist.1 Cryptocurrency investing can take many forms, ranging from buying cryptocurrency directly to investing in crypto funds and companies. For direct investing in crypto coins, you can buy cryptocurrency using crypto exchanges or apps or through certain broker-dealers.

What to Know Before Investing in Cryptocurrency

Investing in cryptocurrency is considered risky. The prices of cryptocurrencies, even the most established ones, are much more volatile than the prices of other assets like stocks. The prices of cryptocurrencies in the future could also be affected by regulatory changes, with the worst-case possibility that cryptocurrency becomes illegal and therefore worthless.

Many investors are nonetheless attracted to the potential upside of investing in crypto. If you decide to invest, it's important to carefully research any digital coin before buying it. Pay attention to transaction fees when making crypto purchases because these fees can vary widely among currencies.

The cryptocurrency space is evolving rapidly, so it's also important to pay attention to new developments that may affect your crypto holdings. Cryptocurrency investors need to understand the tax consequences of using crypto, especially if they purchase something or sell their crypto investments.

Given the riskiness of cryptocurrency as an asset class, it's especially important not to invest more money in crypto than you can afford to lose.

Is Bitcoin a Good Investment

Investing in Bitcoin is not for everyone. The prices of Bitcoin can be volatile, which makes this type of investing likely a poor choice for conservative investors. If you are willing to assume greater risk as an investor, then investing in one or more cryptocurrencies may be right for you.

You can invest in Bitcoin directly by using one of the major cryptocurrency exchanges, such as Coinbase or Binance. Another way to gain investment exposure to Bitcoin is to buy shares in a company with significant Bitcoin exposure, such as a Bitcoin mining company. A third option is to invest in a Bitcoin-focused fund such as an exchange-traded fund (ETF).

Top Crypto Coins

Bitcoin (BTC)

As the harbinger of the cryptocurrency era, Bitcoin is still the coin people generally reference when they talk about digital currency. Its mysterious creator — allegedly Satoshi Nakamoto — debuted the currency in 2009 and it‘s been on a roller-coaster ride since then. However, it wasn’t until 2017 that the cryptocurrency broke into popular consciousness. In 2024, the SEC approved the trading of ETFs that invest directly in Bitcoin, giving investors a simple way to bet on Bitcoin.

Ethereum (ETH)

Ethereum — the name for the cryptocurrency platform — is the second name youre most likely to recognize in the crypto space. The system allows you to use ether (the currency) to perform a number of functions, but the smart contract aspect of Ethereum helps make it a popular currency.

Tether (USDT)

Tether‘s price is anchored at $1 per coin. That’s because it is what‘s called a stablecoin. Stablecoins are tied to the value of a specific asset, in Tether’s case, the U.S. Dollar. Tether often acts as a medium when traders move from one cryptocurrency to another. Rather than move back to dollars, they use tether. However, some people are concerned that Tether isnt safely backed by dollars held in reserve but instead uses a short-term form of unsecured debt.

BNB (BNB)

BNB is the cryptocurrency issued by Binance, among the largest crypto exchanges in the world. While originally created as a token to pay for discounted trades, Binance Coin can now be used for payments as well as purchasing various goods and services.

Solana (SOL)

Launched in March 2020, Solana is a newer cryptocurrency and it touts its speed at completing transactions and the overall robustness of its “web-scale” platform. The issuance of the currency, called SOL, is capped at 480 million coins.

1. Pikamoon (PIKA)

Pikamoon (PIKA) is one of the emerging digital assets that has piqued the interest of experts due to its transparent team, deflationary tokenomics, engaging community, and innovative features. As a native token of the Pikamoon gaming ecosystem, PIKA aims to learn from the mistakes of past gaming sensations like Axie Infinity and offer gamers entertainment as well as stable passive income.

Pikamoons dual utility as a gaming coin, as well as a meme token, and hash graph, is also a big draw. With various applications designed to incentivize holding and trading PIKA, the project is built on fostering a strong user base. At the time of writing, PIKA's market capitalisation is relatively very low, signalling a sizable room for growth if the project gains traction through its roadmap milestones.

2. Hedera (HBAR)

Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR) stands out in the blockchain technology space due to its unique hash graph consensus mechanism that promises high throughput, low fees, and minimal energy consumption. HBAR functions as the native cryptocurrency within the Hedera public network, enabling secure, fast transactions, and a host of decentralised applications. Given its adoption by various financial institutions and its commitment to cutting-edge tech, experts see great potential in HBAR, particularly since its price remains comparatively low at this time.

Pepe is less well-known in the crypto market and often gets overshadowed by the recent surge of Solana-based meme coins like BONK and BOME etc. But what it lacks in fame, it compensates with growth potential. Underpinned by a meme-friendly culture and an active community, Pepe strives to capitalise on the affinity for viral digital content. As a digital asset, PEPE aims to serve a wide range of uses, from tipping on social media to becoming a staple in online marketplaces. While information on its underlying tech is limited, Pepes appeal lies in its cultural traction and current prices, which experts believe have an upside potential.

4. BitTorrent [NEW] (BTT)

Following the acquisition by TRON and subsequent relaunch, BTT uses blockchain technology to incentivise content sharing among peers. New Coins to Invest

Some of the best ways to find new new cryptocurrencies include exchanges (e.g. Binance or Coinbase), data aggregators (e.g. CoinMarketCap), and social media (especially X.) DeFi platforms and crypto news sites (e.g. Tech Report) are also good starting points.

The crypto space is a wasteland of different projects, some worthwhile, others less so. Scams and hype-driven new cryptocurrencies are becoming more common, and it can be hard to find a good project to invest in.

A cryptocurrency is a digital currency that exists on a blockchain (digital ledger) and has a certain value determined by supply and demand.

Cryptocurrencies are inherently more volatile than fiat currencies (government-issued money) because they are not backed by a centralized institution.

Decentralization is one of the main attractions of cryptocurrencies. There is no single entity controlling the blockchain and cryptocurrencies, which makes them the currency of the common man.

Currently, the crypto market is more expensive than ever. That said, however, many of the technical concepts (such as DEX, DeFi, and ICOs) make it impossible for non-technical people to enter the industry.
